FAAC Distributes Record ₦2.225 Trillion Revenue in Tinubu’s Era

Nigeria has set a new milestone in public finance as the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) disbursed ₦2.225 trillion in federation revenue for August 2025—the highest allocation ever to the three tiers of government and statutory recipients.

This historic feat comes in President Bola Tinubu’s era, marking the second consecutive month FAAC disbursements have exceeded ₦2 trillion, according to The Nation.

The surge was driven by higher receipts from oil and gas royalties, Value Added Tax (VAT), and Common External Tariff (CET) levies, a communiqué issued at the end of the August meeting in Abuja confirmed.

Breakdown of the ₦2.225 Trillion Distributable Revenue:

  • ₦1.478 trillion – Statutory revenue

  • ₦672.903 billion – VAT

  • ₦32.338 billion – Electronic Money Transfer Levy (EMTL)

  • ₦41.284 billion – Exchange Difference

Gross federation revenue stood at ₦3.635 trillion, out of which ₦124.839 billion was deducted as collection cost, while ₦1.285 trillion was set aside for transfers, interventions, refunds, and savings.

How the Funds Were Shared:

  • Federal Government: ₦684.462 billion (statutory), ₦100.935 billion (VAT), ₦4.851 billion (EMTL), ₦19.799 billion (exchange)

  • States: ₦347.168 billion (statutory), ₦336.452 billion (VAT), ₦16.169 billion (EMTL), ₦10.042 billion (exchange)

  • Local Governments: ₦267.652 billion (statutory), ₦235.516 billion (VAT), ₦11.318 billion (EMTL), ₦7.742 billion (exchange)

  • Oil-Producing States (Derivation, 13%): ₦179.311 billion (statutory), ₦3.701 billion (exchange)

This record-breaking distribution is being hailed as a sign of increasing revenue performance and the government’s commitment to strengthening fiscal stability, even as reforms under Tinubu’s administration continue to reshape Nigeria’s economic outlook.
