Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu: Lagos Closer to Achieving Target in Malaria Elimination Drive

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced significant progress in Lagos State’s ongoing effort to drastically reduce malaria cases through the Pathway to Malaria Pre-Elimination and Digitisation Programme, launched in March 2025.

Speaking at the programme’s mid-term review, the governor revealed that Lagos is now closer than ever to achieving its target of bringing malaria cases down to less than 1% prevalence.

According to him, the state is leveraging technology to deliver real-time reports, strengthen diagnosis and treatment, and integrate private pharmacies and community clinics fully into the campaign against malaria.

“With support from partners like the World Bank and the IMPACT project, we are closing the gaps faster,” Sanwo-Olu said. He further disclosed that new data from more than 40,000 rapid malaria tests shows a decline in positive cases.

The governor emphasized that defeating malaria requires collective effort, urging Lagosians to play their part in prevention and awareness.

“This fight against malaria is not for government alone. Every Lagosian has a role to play. If we each do our part, malaria can truly become a thing of the past in our State,” he added.

Sanwo-Olu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to a healthier Lagos and expressed confidence that the state can achieve its vision of becoming malaria-free in the near future.
