Enugu First Lady Nkechinyere Mbah Celebrates State Honoured as “Model Green State”

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, has launched the Green Nigeria Challenge under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), a landmark programme aimed at galvanizing Nigerians to embrace environmental stewardship through tree planting, sanitation, and sustainable practices.

The event, held at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, brought together leaders and stakeholders from across the country. In recognition of its consistent dedication to environmental management, Enugu State was celebrated as the “Model Green State” and awarded ₦100 million.

Speaking on the recognition, Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, First Lady of Enugu State, expressed pride in the state’s achievement, noting that the award reflects the proactive measures of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration and the collective efforts of the people of Enugu to set a national benchmark in environmental sustainability.

The Green Nigeria Challenge also includes competitive categories for households and communities, with prizes ranging from ₦20 million to ₦50 million, encouraging wide participation in creating cleaner and greener environments across Nigeria.

Mrs. Mbah praised Senator Oluremi Tinubu for her visionary leadership in driving the initiative, stressing that the programme is not just about recognition but about building a lasting culture of environmental responsibility across the nation.

“Through this bold initiative, the First Lady is fostering innovation and collaboration to ensure a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Nigeria for generations to come,” she said.
