Ekiti First Lady Olayemi Oyebanji Condemns Killing of Woman, Declares “Enough is Enough” to Gender-Based Violence

Ekiti State First Lady, Dr. Olayemi Oyebanji, has strongly condemned the tragic killing of Mrs. Modupe Alasin from Efon Alaaye, who was allegedly murdered by her husband after a domestic dispute.

In a statement titled “Enough is Enough,” Dr. Oyebanji described the incident as heartbreaking and a stark reminder of the urgent need to eradicate gender-based violence (GBV) across society.

“No woman’s life should be cut short by violence,” she said.

The First Lady revealed that she has directed the Ekiti State GBV Management Committee to:

  • Intensify preventive interventions,

  • Strengthen survivor support services, and

  • Expand sensitization campaigns across all communities in the state.

She also called on the Ekiti State Police Command to ensure swift and impartial justice for the victim, stressing that Ekiti will never tolerate violence in any form.

Dr. Oyebanji further reassured women and girls that support is available, urging them to speak out and report abuse:

“To every woman or girl feeling unsafe: your voice matters, and help is available. Let us all speak up, report abuse, and stand united to end this menace.”

The incident has reignited calls for stronger enforcement of laws against domestic violence, as stakeholders and rights advocates join the First Lady in demanding justice and systemic reforms.
